Hands-On Security and Civilian Training for Real-World Situations

A certificate alone does not prepare you for a real emergency. Pikes Peak Protection Group provides practical training for security professionals, businesses, organizations, and civilians. From guard cards and armed certifications to CCW/CHP, CPR, AVIRT, Taser, and specialized firearms courses, every class focuses on skills you may actually need to use.

From Guard Cards and CCW to Emergency Response Training

The right training depends on what you are preparing for. You may be beginning a security career, completing an armed certification, applying for a concealed handgun permit, learning to protect your family, or preparing your workplace to respond during an emergency.
Pikes Peak Protection Group offers hands-on courses for security professionals and civilians, along with group and custom training for businesses and organizations. Our security officer courses are supported through our partnership with Defencify, one of the industry’s leading security training providers.

Basic Security Officer Course

Security Skills and Professional Development

Continue building the skills required for professional security work through OCAT/PATH training, Axon Taser training, de-escalation instruction, and our Security Professional Development Course.

Custom Training Courses

Need training built around your workplace, security team, policies, or specific risks? We can develop custom courses for businesses, security companies, organizations, and groups with specialized training needs.

Which Kind of Training Are You Looking For?

Our courses are not limited to security guards. We provide practical training for security professionals, civilians, businesses, and organizations with different responsibilities and experience levels.

Whether you are a first-time gun owner or preparing to apply for a Colorado concealed handgun permit, you need instruction that goes beyond simply completing a requirement.

Here is how we can help:

  • Learn safe firearms handling and storage
  • Build stronger shooting fundamentals
  • Complete classroom and live-fire instruction
  • Understand relevant Colorado firearms laws
  • Prepare for CCW/CHP competency requirements
  • Develop responsible judgment and decision-making

Starting a security career requires more than passing an online course. You need to understand what is expected when you are responsible for protecting people, property, and a client’s reputation.

Here is how we can help:

  • Complete a Basic Security Officer Course
  • Prepare for applicable guard card requirements
  • Learn patrol procedures and report writing
  • Understand legal authority and professional conduct
  • Practice communication and situational awareness
  • Learn what security employers expect from new officers

Your background gave you real experience most guards don’t have. What you might not have is a Colorado guard card, or a sense of how private security differs from military or police work.

Here’s how we can help:

  • Translate your military or law enforcement background into the certifications Colorado requires
  • Learn the legal and procedural differences between private security and your prior service
  • Fast-track advanced courses like active shooter response and armed security guard training
  • Get a direct look at potential employment with Pikes Peak Protection Group after training

Certifications expire, and so does relevant training if you never refresh it. Staying sharp matters more than staying current on paper.

Here’s how we can help:

  • Renew your guard card and firearms certifications on schedule, without last-minute scrambling
  • Refresh your skills in de-escalation, first aid, and emergency response
  • Train alongside working officers instead of sitting through a repetitive online course
  • Stay current on Colorado’s licensing requirements as they change

Every guard you send on-site reflects your company’s reputation. If your officers aren’t trained to your standard, that’s a liability you’re carrying every shift.

Here’s how we can help:

  • Enroll your team in group security guard training classes covering firearms, first aid, and de-escalation
  • Standardize training across your entire roster instead of relying on whatever each hire brings with them
  • Get access to the same instructors and curriculum we use to train our own officers
  • Build a documented training record for every employee on your team

Armed security work carries greater responsibility. Firearms training must be paired with sound judgment, de-escalation skills, and an understanding of when force is and is not appropriate.

Here is how we can help:

  • Complete firearms training and certification
  • Develop safe handling and shooting skills
  • Prepare for armed security qualifications
  • Strengthen judgment and de-escalation skills
  • Renew or refresh existing certifications
  • Train with instructors who understand security work

Colorado’s firearm laws and training requirements continue to change. We offer courses for individuals seeking CCW/CHP training and training related to specified semiautomatic firearms under SB25-003.

Here is how we can help:

  • Understand which course may apply to you
  • Prepare for required classroom instruction
  • Complete applicable live-fire components
  • Learn current safety and legal principles
  • Ask questions before beginning the process
  • Find an upcoming course or training location

Training Isn't a Box to Check. It's the Job.

Some students come to satisfy a professional or legal requirement. Others want the confidence to protect themselves, help someone during a medical emergency, or respond appropriately when a routine situation becomes dangerous.

In every case, completing the course is only part of the goal. The training must also prepare you to make responsible decisions when the situation is real. That’s why Pikes Peak Protection Group emphasizes hands-on instruction, practical scenarios, current requirements, and skills that remain useful after the certificate is issued.

Taught by Experienced Professionals

Our instructors bring military, law enforcement, firearms, emergency-response, or protection-industry experience into the classroom.

Hands-On, Not Just Online

Firearms handling, live-fire exercises, CPR, emergency response, and other physical skills require active practice—not just a slideshow or recorded presentation.

Training for Professionals and Civilians

You do not have to work in private security to take a course. We offer training for security officers, civilians, employees, organizations, and groups.

Current, Practical Curriculum

Our courses are designed around current professional expectations, applicable training requirements, and realistic situations students may encounter.

A Direct Path to Security Employment

Strong graduates may receive consideration for available security positions with Pikes Peak Protection Group.

Group and Custom Training

Businesses, security companies, and organizations can arrange training for an entire team or request a course tailored to their environment and responsibilities.

Important Colorado CCW/CHP Training Update

Beginning July 1, 2025, Colorado changed the training requirements for concealed handgun permits.

New applicants using a firearms training course must complete an in-person class taught by a county sheriff–verified instructor. The class must include at least eight hours of instruction, a written competency exam, and a live-fire exercise. Qualifying initial training must generally be completed within one year before submitting a permit application.

Renewal applicants must also demonstrate handgun competency. An eligible refresher course must be completed in person and include at least two hours of instruction, a written exam, and a live-fire exercise. Refresher training must generally be completed within six months before submitting a renewal application.

Contact Pikes Peak Protection Group to learn about upcoming CCW/CHP courses and determine which training option applies to you.
